This historical children's costume consists of a floor-length dress and a matching bonnet. Godets inserted at the sides widen the hem and ensure a flowing, movement-friendly silhouette.
Dress A features contrasting trim; the front slit and sleeve slits are laced with cords. The sleeves are also attached to the dress with cords.
Dress B features lacing at the back and a simpler design. Bonnet C complements the ensemble and completes the medieval-inspired look.
💡 3) Recommended combination
This costume can be ideally combined with simple leather belts, small pouches, or flat shoes. For cooler days, capes or short coats, like those commonly worn at medieval festivals, are also suitable.
📜 4) Historical context
In the Middle Ages, children's clothing was also functional and modeled on adult attire. Wide skirts with godets, laced slits, and detachable sleeves allowed freedom of movement and flexible adaptation to growth and the seasons. Bonnets were a standard head covering and part of everyday wear.
